Meet your counselor
John King, LPC
I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Trainings include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gottman Method (Level 1), and Attachment-Based Family Therapy. Over my career, I have provided counseling for adults, teens, and children in residential substance abuse treatment, community mental health, and private practice outpatient settings.
I believe in working with the whole person - mind, body, and spirit - and actively encourage clients to use both their own self-understanding and the support of others to bring about lasting change. With the client’s permission, I consult with other professionals to coordinate treatment. In addition, I participate in an ongoing system of supervision, training, and personal and professional growth in order to provide the best care possible to my clients.
Born and raised in the Midwest, I lived and worked on the Alabama Gulf Coast prior to moving to Grand Rapids. Outside the office, I enjoy roadtripping with my wife and dog and practicing blues riffs on the piano.
