Meet your counselor
John King, LPC
I am a licensed professional counselor with nearly a decade of professional experience serving clients in residential, community mental health, and private practice settings. I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Franciscan University of Steubenville and have worked with adults, children, and families. I have extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which form the foundation of my work with clients. Additional trainings include Attachment-Based Family Therapy, the Gottman Method (Level 1), and the Gottman Method for PTSD and Affair Recovery.
I believe in treating the whole person - mind, body, and spirit - and support the work of other professionals in providing care to clients. I consult with other counselors, psychiatrists, and schools to coordinate treatment (with the client’s permission) to provide the best care possible. Likewise, I participate in ongoing supervision and training, a standard of practice in the field.
Born and raised in the Midwest, I lived and worked on the Alabama Gulf Coast prior to moving to Grand Rapids. Outside the office, I enjoy roadtripping with my wife and dog and practicing blues riffs on the piano.
